355 is a collaborative installation by Alexis Spina and Katherine Miller. The original 9,000 square foot piece highlights 2041 individual objects left behind after the closure of a 20th century textile mill in Athens, Georgia. The artists collected discarded objects of industry and human presence from the buildings and property of the mill site. These items were then intuitively arranged in a grid formation, covering the entire area of one of the mill’s warehouses. The following exhibition, featuring additional work by Stephen Parks, provides a window into that project by giving some of the objects yet another life and giving viewers an experience akin to walking amid the original piece. Both manifestations serve as an access point for discussing architectural and object value, environmentally ethical reuse, physical labor, and local history.
